Wild Ecosystems Workshop

Mountain lions, a keystone species. This apex predator has an outsized positive impact on the ecosystems it inhabits. This workshop is a celebration of that impact.

What: Wild Ecosystems Workshop

Location: Near Sedalia, Colorado (participants will be given directions to the location)

When: Saturday, October 4, 2025

(Limited to 10 Participants)

The workshop is an invitation to experience the hidden richness of nature through all your senses. When you step onto a shaded north slope and feel the cool air beneath towering aspens, notice the ferns brushing your boots, the moss clinging to ancient logs, and hear the haunting bugle of an elk echoing through the midday stillness, you begin to realize these moments aren’t random. They’re nature’s orchestra — a living tapestry of life woven together with purpose and precision for those willing to slow down and truly see.

Every track pressed into soft mud, every lion scrape in deep duff, every pile of scat in a meadow tells a story. These signs are a language — one that reveals the daily rhythms of mountain lions following ridgelines where the wind carries the scent of prey, or bobcats and coyotes hunting tight winter corridors where mice, voles and rabbits are feeding. In this workshop, you’ll learn how everything in nature happens for a reason. Understanding these patterns deepens not just your knowledge, but your reverence for the wild and your place within it.

The wilder the land, the more intact its ancient balance remains — a primal metronome ticking on, far from roads and noise. To stand within it, you must be willing to step well off the beaten path and be ready for what the backcountry demands: a strong grasp of navigation, the skills to adapt, and the mindset to handle unexpected nights under the stars. The Wild Ecosystems Workshop weaves all of this together, drawing on more than fifty years of hard-won backcountry wisdom so you can read the wild, move safely through it, and be fully present for nature’s deepest gifts.

Deep in the Rawah Wilderness of Colorado, three bull elk display dominance without engaging velvet antlers. While growing as much as an inch per day, these velvet antlers will harden off by the end of August, preparing bulls for the September rut where they fight for the right to mate with cow elk.
