Backcountry Hike
Join Wild Nature Media for a Backcountry Hike designed to deepen your connection with the wild and sharpen your confidence in exploring it. This is not just a walk through the woods — it’s an immersive, hands-on experience where you’ll learn to read the land like a seasoned explorer. With the guidance of an experienced backcountry naturalist, you’ll practice essential navigation skills, from using a map and compass to understanding how terrain, weather, and wildlife can shape your route. These skills are as timeless as the wilderness itself and will open up a world of remote places that few ever get to see.
On this hike, you’ll discover hidden gems far beyond the reach of crowded trailheads. Your guide will share knowledge of spectacular areas that feel truly wild — quiet ridges, secret meadows, and off-trail routes that reward the adventurous spirit. You’ll also learn how to plan routes safely, what to pack, and how to move through sensitive landscapes with minimum impact. Whether you’re just beginning to explore off the beaten path or looking to expand your backcountry confidence, this hike will help you feel at home in terrain that many only dream of visiting.
Most importantly, you won’t be doing it alone. You’ll share this experience with a small group of like-minded backcountry enthusiasts — people who understand the deep pull to stand in places where cell service disappears and nature speaks without interruption. Together, you’ll soak in the sights, scents, and sounds of truly wild places, forging new friendships and memories along the way. By the end of the day, you’ll head home not only with stronger skills but with a renewed sense of belonging in the untamed corners of the world.
This is an off trail route to the top of Iron Mountain in the Neota Wilderness of Colorado. It is fairly easy hiking but you must pay close attention to the weather and get off the mountain and high ridge lines by noon, at the latest.
